When it comes to wood lookalike floors, there is more than one option to choose from. If you love the look of hardwood but are looking for something more affordable, you might want to consider “fake” hardwood materials like:

  • Laminate
  • Wood-Look Tile
  • Luxury Vinyl
  • Soft Wood Tile

Laminate

Laminate is a hybrid flooring that is made up of four different layers:

  • The Back Layer is the bottom layer that protects the plank against moisture and balances the floor.
  • The Core Layer is a durable, high-density board above the back layer that protects from indentations and moisture.
  • The Design Layer is above the core layer and is a high-resolution photograph of the floor’s surface appearance.
  • The Wear Layer is the final transparent layer made of aluminum oxide that protects against fading, stains, and surface burns.

Wood-Look Tile

Wood-look tile is made from porcelain or ceramic tile, and it is etched with details to give it a wood appearance. The tile can be purchased in planks, making it appear even more like hardwood, or it can be bought in smaller unique shapes that appear more tile-like.

Luxury Vinyl

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) or Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a durable, waterproof flooring that has the look of hardwood or stone depending on the design of the top layer. It is made up of multiple layers that aid in the design, durability, and ease of maintenance of this beautiful flooring choice. Plus, it is much more affordable than hardwood.

Soft Wood Tiles

Softwood tiles are interlocking free-floating dense foam tiles. They must be laid on top of another flooring surface and can provide insulation and comfort. In addition, they are waterproof, lightweight, inexpensive, and can be installed in minutes. Flooring like this is popular in children’s play spaces as well as home gyms.
