If you currently have hardwood floors or plan to in the future, continue below to learn how to keep wooden floors clean while extending the life of your floors with minimal signs of wear-and-tear.


  1. Remove spills as soon as possible.
  2. Vacuum or sweep your floors daily to prevent dirt and debris from scratching your floors.
  3. Place mats at all exterior doors to prevent you and your pets from tracking in dirt, mud, slush, oil, and grease into your home.
  4. Place furniture pads under any furniture legs to reduce the likelihood of scratches and dents.
  5. Keep your pets’ nails trimmed to prevent scratches.

  1. Don’t clean or mop your hardwood floors with water or steam, as it can dull the finish and permanently damage your floors. That means, you guessed it, that we don’t recommend hardwood in moisture-trapping bathrooms.
  2. Don’t walk on hardwood in heals or cleats, as these types of footwear can dent hardwood.
