    Choose a Greener Cleaner

Floor Care Tips with Flooring Frank

With Earth Day right around the corner, many of us are thinking more about our impact on the environment. And, as more and more all-natural products hit the market, it’s becoming easier and easier to think green. So, before you reach for that chemical-filled cleaner to tackle the next spill, consider these all natural options. Greener Cleaners

Grease spills can be a nightmare no matter where they happen, but here’s a tip to tackle the mess on carpet: pour cornstarch on the spill and let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes. The grease will adhere to the cornstarch, which can be easily vacuumed away.

Carpet odors got you down? Just like in the refrigerator, baking soda can help. Sprinkle it on, leave for 15 minutes, then vacuum.

Hardwood floors ca benefit from a little natural TLC too. Rubbing alcohol can be used to remove permanent marker stains from finished wood floors. Simply pour onto a cotton ball and apply gently until the marks disappear. For scuff marks, sprinkle baking soda on an only slightly dampened sponge and rub gently.

Floor Care for Your Home Office

Floor Care tips with Flooring Frank

Chairs on rollers, leaky pens, and the occasional coffee spill don’t have to mean the end of beautiful flooring in your home office. Protect your floors with just a few simple steps.

Your office chair can cause ruts, crushing, indentations, and scratches in your carpet or hard surface floor. Keep damage at bay by simply purchasing a plastic chair mat at your local office supply store.

When the occasional spill disaster strikes, be prepared with a few cleaning supplies. For ink and coffee stains on your carpet, blot up any excess, then apply a mix of 1/2 tsp. of clear dishwashing detergent and 1 cup of warm water. Blot, then apply straight white vinegar using a damp towel. Wash with a water-dampened sponge. Weigh down a half inch thick pad of white paper towels to absorb the moisture.

Protect Your Floors From Rain, Snow, and Mud

Floor Care tips with Flooring Frank

While a fresh blanket of snow may bring joy to the heart of your inner child, it can wreak havoc on your beautiful floors. But, with a few simple precautions you can keep flooring safe from rain, snow, salt, and mud.

Keep the outdoors out with mats both inside and outside every door to your home. Outdoor mats should work like scrub brushes – with tough bristles for removing larger particles of ice, salt, and mud. For inside, use a softer mat to catch liquids and any remaining debris.

Should any water, mud, or ice make it onto your floor, wipe it up right away. Standing water is a sure way to damage your floor.

Train Fido to wait by the door before re-entering your home and keep a towel nearby to wipe muddy paws. Too late for training? Stash a leash by the door to keep your pet under control while you clean up.

Easy Tips to Protect Your Floors this Holiday Season

Floor Care Tips with Flooring Frank

There’s nothing like holiday decorations to get your home into the spirit of the season, but don’t forget to keep your floors in mind.

Often, it’s necessary to rearrange your room to accommodate a tree or other holiday items. If you’ll be moving heavy furniture, you can protect your floors by using a dolly with wide-base air tires or furniture movers which help slide your heavy furniture effortlessly. Put down a clean sheet of quarter-inch plywood before you begin to stabilize the tree stand.

If you’ll have guests dining with you, consider slipping some festive holiday socks over the legs of your kitchen or dining chairs to protect your floors as they’re moved around.

Real holiday tree? Be sure to use a tree skirt that is at least as big around as the widest part of the tree to catch sap drippings.

If you’ll be enjoying wood fires in your fireplace this season, protect the floor nearby with a hearth rug. It will catch and protect against floating embers, sparks, and soot.

    Choosing a Hardwood Floor

Not only are hardwood floors beautiful, but they also increase the value of your home. There are many hardwood flooring types in a variety of colors and finishes. However, many people struggle with choosing a wood floor that fits the style of their home while providing the look they want. Here are some popular hardwood flooring options that may help make your decision a little bit easier.

Maple hardwood floors are a popular choice due to their beauty and durability. Offering timeless style and visual depth, maple works well in a variety of traditional and modern settings. Maple floors are available in a variety of shades that bring out the beautiful swirls and subtle grain for which this wood is known.

Oak continues to be the most common wood floor in North America. Oak offers distinctive wood grain patterns and is a popular choice for traditional settings. Oak is highly resistant to scratches and dents, making it a good choice for high-traffic areas.

Similar to oak, ash hardwood floors offer a unique look. Ash floors are extremely dense and durable, making them a popular choice in dining rooms. Light colored ash floors are very desirable, and range from light blonde to darker cream-colored tones. Ash floors are popular in a variety of settings, from beach houses to rustic lofts.

Walnut floors offer rich, chocolate tones and complex grain patterns. In the last few years, walnut has increased in popularity due to its unique color and blended brown shades. The details and textures in walnut flooring look elegant in formal environments, as the wood tends to get darker as it matures.

Whatever type of flooring that you choose, Flooring America has the products you need and the service you deserve. Stop in your local Flooring America showroom today to discover the hardwood floor of your dreams!

Decorating with the Pantone Color of the Year

A bright, reddish orange hue, Tangerine Tango added a burst of color to fashion, cosmetics, and home décor this year. Looking for ways to use this high-impact hue? Here are some suggestions for incorporating this dynamic color in your own home:

    • Storage boxes.
Available in a variety of sizes and shapes, storage boxes minimize clutter and keep your home organized. A small storage box in a high gloss finish is ideal for keeping dressers and desks neat. If you’re looking for more of an impact, a plush storage ottoman in this look-at-me shade can add color and texture to your space.
    • Pillows.
Pillows are an affordable way to add color to a living room or bedroom. With so many styles and patterns, pillows are an easy way to change the look of
a room quickly. Pair tangerine and blue pillows together for a look that’s right on trend.
    • Rugs.
Looking for a way to make a bigger impact? Try an area rug on your patio. A solid or striped tangerine rug provides a vibrant look all year and spruces up your outdoor space.
    • Artwork.
Brighten your room with a piece of artwork in this juicy hue. Abstract prints and bright floral patterns look great in this shade and complement many neutral color palettes.
    • Flowers and fruit.
Orange flowers in a tall glass vase create a beautiful sunburst effect in the kitchen or bathroom. Add a serving bowl with oranges and tangerines in
the dining room or on a buffet table. These inexpensive options can instantly give life to a new room.

If you’re looking to add a pop of color to your existing home décor, these accents provide style and function to your space. From lighting to appliances, this exciting color is sure to spice up any room in your home.

Tile Flooring That Looks Like Wood

Hardwood floors provide an elegant look to any interior. With the variety of colors, styles, and types available, it’s no wonder that hardwood flooring
continues to be one of the most popular flooring choices today. Easy to maintain, this natural and ageless flooring option provides natural warmth and
beauty that can last for generations.

In many homes, hardwood flooring has been limited to living rooms and bedrooms. However, many tile manufacturers are now creating tiles that mimic the
appearance of wood. These tiles offer several advantages for homeowners looking to add the wood look into other areas of their home:

    • Wood flooring can expand or warp when exposed to water. Tile flooring resists moisture, allowing it to be an ideal choice for kitchens, bathrooms,
      and laundry rooms.
    • Tile flooring stays cool, which makes wood tiles a great choice for those that live in warmer climates. In areas with high humidity, wood-look tiles
      are also a popular choice.
    • Tile flooring is a popular choice for those with pets and children, providing maximum durability. With tiles that appear to be wood, the scratches
and nicks common to hardwood flooring are a thing of the past.
    • Bring the look of wood outside with these versatile tiles. Since tile flooring resists moisture, it is an ideal choice around pools, decks, and
      patios.

Visit your local Flooring America store today to discover a variety of tile options. With such a vast selection, it’s easy to choose a floor that fits both
    your lifestyle and your budget!
